Our two-day train trip to Machu Picchu takes you on one of the most incredible train journeys in the world. Following the route of the Urubamba River to the cloud forest that is Machu Picchu, you will enjoy the beautiful landscape of the high Andes to the south.
the length of the route. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will check into your comfortable hotel to spend the night and sleep well so you can get up at dawn to visit Machu Picchu the next day.
Our tour begins in Cosco around 10 am then we will make a trip of one hour and a half until we reach Ollantaytambo, where we will take the 12:50 p.m. train to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), in the course of 1 hour 40 minutes of travel, we will have spectacular views of the landscape, the snow-capped mountains, the vilcanota river and the tropical areas of the jungle
The city of Machu Picchu ( Aguas Calientes )
When you arrive at the Aguas Calientes station, a staff will be waiting for you at the door, to accompany you to your respective accommodation for the night.
In the afternoon you will have free time to visit the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes) or visit the famous hot springs and eat, there you will find everything you need in between: Restaurants, shops and even a massage parlor. Briefly the guide will indicate the time when we will not meet at the lodge, to coordinate about your guided tour the next day in Machu Picchu. It is advisable to sleep early and rest, because the next day you will need all the energy to visit Machu Picchu.
This day we’ll have more than just getting up early and having breakfast at the hotel. The guide will come to pick us up and take us to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, where we will be able to appreciate the impressive scene of the sunrise over the ancient ruins.
Then we will enjoy a guided tour of about 2 hours through the most important archaeological sites. During the guided tour we will learn about the secrets and history of this fascinating place.
After the guide we will have enough time to enjoy on our own, until we take the bus to Aguas Calientes and have all the time for lunch, until the departure of the train to Ollantaytambo. In Ollantaytambo the transfer will be waiting for us to board the bus and return to the city of Cuzco, arriving around 8:30 p.m. (the time of arrival may vary depending on the time available for the tickets for which it is advisable to book the tour in advance)
Recommendatiosn for the tour
When preparing your luggage, remember that the rainy season in Machu Picchu is from December to March. The winter, between May and August, is especially cold, so we recommend that you bring your own:
- Mosquito repellent
- Bottled waters
- Waterproof jacket or rain poncho
- Hat and gloves
- Personal medication
- Extra money
