Types of Machu Picchu Tickets for 2023

There are seven types of entrances tickets for 2022 in Machu Picchu. Below are the four currently available for booking. The most popular ticket is the Machu Picchu Solo ticket.

The prices shown below are the official Machu Picchu tickets available on the official website of the Ministry of Culture. This is not the final price, it may include taxes and commissions for paying with credit cards and online.

There are more places that can be visited that are currently not available, the most popular and well known is the Inti Punco or Puerta del Sol that still does not have a special entrance to visit it.

Machu Picchu circuits map 2023

The circuit routes are divided into 4, with colors to make it easier to identify them. Each Machu Picchu ticket tells you which circuits it allows you to go with that ticket, so check right which places you want to visit and buy the right one.

  1. Circuit 1 (Short top): This circuit allows you to visit the guardian’s house, which is the most classic viewpoint of Machu Picchu. This route gives an exit before reaching the temple of the 3 windows.
  2. Circuit 2 (Long top): This is the most complete circuit, it allows you to visit the main important places of Machu Picchu.
  3. Circuit 3 (Short base): This circuit allows you to visit the Inca’s house and some Inca enclosures.
  4. Circuit 4 (Long base): This circuit allows you to go directly to the entrance gate of Huayna Picchu and Huchuy Picchu.

Since 2022, tickets to Machu Picchu have changed. There are more than seven types of tickets to different points of the Inca citadel. There are about 3 tickets that are currently not available.

Choose the “GENERAL TAP” (#2): In case you are Peruvian, Colombian, Bolivian, or Ecuadorian, choose the second option: “PERUANOS Y PAISES CAN“; And for free tickets for Sundays choose “CUSQUEÑOS” only if you are from Cusco or live there.

Step 3: Choose the type of ticket

Here we have to choose what type of tickets we want to buy (#3) (We already explained the types of tickets at the beginning, if you still don’t know what types of tickets you need, go back to the types of tickets section.) Then choose the day we want to visit the citadel (#4). After that, fill in other details (#5) like: How many people, students and kids.

Finally, we check availability (#6) with the data entered. These data will show us if there are spaces with the options you want.

Step 4: Choose an entry time

As we mentioned, when we consult it will give us a result at the bottom, as shown in the image, here we have to choose the schedule of income that we want (#7). Choose on option and then click on “CONTINUAR CON LA RESERVA” (#8)

In this step, we have to put our basic and contact information like Email, Country (#9), type of document we have, Number, Last name, names, date of birth, and sex. After filling in all the details (#10), click on “SIGUIENTE” (#11).

Step 6: Accepts policies and terms and conditions

In this step, we have to read and accept terms and conditions, COVID protocols, and ticket conditions of use (The most important thing is that the ticket is non-refundable, non-exchangeable, and non-transferable).

Finally, click on “PAY HERE” (#17), and a popup will open for you to enter your credit/debit card information.

Machu Picchu Tickets for the following year

Don’t be fooled by agencies that say they can sell tickets for Machu Picchu for 2023 or next year, remember that tickets are available from mid-December 2022.

What travel agencies do is sell you a ticket in advance. They wait until the official tickets come out (like in mid-December) to buy it for you. What they do is to take care and be aware of the availability to buy for you for the following year.

The tickets that sell out quickly are: the general entrance to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, as well as the classic 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu and Covid-19

The Peruvian Government reduced the number of tickets available for Machu Picchu, and the way to buy them.

In 2022 things are no longer so strict, but there are still some measures that we have to obey.

We recommend make your trip with a travel agency, to avoid any inconvenience.

The recommendations for the entrance:

  • Wear a mask during the tour (you can only take it off for photos).
  • Keep a social distance.
  • To enter Peru 2 doses of vaccination or negative Covid test 48 hours before.

It is not common that the tickets to Machu Picchu sold out, first of all, make sure there are no tickets for the day you want, remember that from 2019 the entrance type changed, now the tickets are sell for a specific time or hour. The entrance begins from 6 AM to 2 PM in the afternoon, so make sure there are spaces for other times for the day you want.

Normally the tickets have a high demand for the months of June, July and August, for those dates try to buy well in advance.

The Ministry of Culture has enabled since 2021 7 different types of tickets that give you access to different parts of Machu Picchu.

  1. do you have to use the Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu ticket the same day. Would like not to do this on the same day. Do not see any tickets for just Huayna Picchu

    1. There is no single ticket for Huayna Picchu, you have to buy both, or another thing you can do is buy a ticket for Machu Picchu and then the one that includes Huayna Picchu, and that way you can do it in 2 days.
