Route 3B – the Designed Route of Circuit 3 (Machupicchu Royalty) – takes you through the royal and ceremonial sectors of the lower citadel, providing an intimate perspective of the citadel’s architecture, engineering, and everyday Inca life. It’s ideal for visitors seeking a shorter yet immersive archaeological experience without steep climbs.
The trail begins near the Sacred Rock sector and winds through the lower terraces, residential compounds, and ritual areas that form the foundation of Machu Picchu’s city plan. Visitors can observe finely built stone walls, storage rooms, and water channels, as well as the Temple of the Condor, one of the most symbolically rich structures in the site. The route also provides excellent interior views of the Sacred Plaza and the surrounding mountain landscape.
Although it does not include access to the upper viewpoints, Circuit 3B allows visitors to appreciate the ingenuity of Inca urban design, the harmonious integration between architecture and nature, and the spiritual atmosphere that defines Machu Picchu.
