The Machu Picchu Circuit 2B Ticket — Lower Terrace Route is a close alternative to the Classic Route (Circuit 2A), designed to offer visitors nearly the same experience through the main archaeological and ceremonial sectors of Machu Picchu. It follows a very similar path but begins from a lower access point, making it an excellent option when tickets for Circuit 2A are sold out.
The route begins near the lower agricultural terraces, gradually ascending into the central urban area of the citadel. Visitors explore many of the same monumental structures seen on Circuit 2A, including the Main Temple, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the Sacred Plaza, where the finest examples of Inca stonework are found. The trail also passes by residential and industrial zones that reveal the complexity of daily life within the Inca city.
Although it starts from a slightly lower level and does not reach the uppermost terraces near the Guardian’s House, Circuit 2B still provides spectacular panoramic views of the citadel and Huayna Picchu from within the archaeological core. It offers a rich and complete understanding of Machu Picchu’s urban and spiritual layout, without requiring the steeper climbs of other routes.
Circuit 2B is therefore the perfect alternative to Circuit 2A — providing the same depth of experience and access to Machu Picchu’s most iconic temples and plazas, with only minor differences in entry point and elevation.
